Authorship Criteria
The Jurnal Anestesi Obstetri Indonesia (JAOI) is committed to ensuring that authorship is assigned fairly, transparently, and in accordance with internationally recognized publication ethics standards. Authorship must reflect substantial scholarly contributions to the work and carry appropriate responsibility for its content.
1. Authorship Requirements
JAOI follows the authorship criteria established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). To qualify as an author, an individual must meet all four of the following criteria:
-
Make substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work, or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data.
-
Draft the manuscript or critically revise it for important intellectual content.
-
Provide final approval of the version to be published.
-
Agree to be accountable for all aspects of the work, ensuring that questions relating to its accuracy or integrity are appropriately investigated and resolved.
Individuals who do not meet all four criteria should not be listed as authors but may be acknowledged for their contributions, with their permission.
2. Author Contributions
All authors are expected to make meaningful contributions to the research or manuscript. JAOI may request a statement describing each author's specific contributions to promote transparency and accountability.
Authors must ensure that the contribution statement accurately reflects the work performed by each individual.
3. Corresponding Author Responsibilities
The corresponding author serves as the primary contact between the authors and the editorial office throughout submission, peer review, and publication.
The corresponding author is responsible for:
-
Ensuring that all listed authors meet the authorship criteria.
-
Confirming that all authors have reviewed and approved the submitted manuscript and its final version.
-
Obtaining agreement from all authors regarding the author list and order.
-
Communicating editorial decisions and revision requests to co-authors.
-
Providing accurate information about funding, ethical approval, and conflicts of interest, where applicable.
4. Author Order
The order of authors should be agreed upon by all authors before manuscript submission. The order should reflect the authors' respective contributions and the agreement among the research team.
Any changes to the author list or author order after submission must be justified and approved by all authors concerned. The journal may request written confirmation before approving such changes.
5. Unacceptable Authorship Practices
JAOI does not permit the following practices:
-
Gift or honorary authorship: listing individuals who have not made qualifying scholarly contributions.
-
Guest authorship: including individuals to increase the perceived credibility of a manuscript without meeting authorship requirements.
-
Ghost authorship: omitting individuals who have made qualifying contributions without appropriate justification.
-
Misrepresentation of contributions: providing inaccurate statements about an individual's role in the research or manuscript.
All authorship decisions must be based on genuine scholarly contributions.
6. Acknowledgments
Individuals who contribute to a manuscript but do not meet the authorship criteria may be acknowledged for their specific contributions, subject to their permission. Examples may include technical assistance, administrative support, language editing, or other contributions that do not satisfy all authorship requirements.
Acknowledgment must not be used as a substitute for authorship when an individual meets all required criteria.
7. Artificial Intelligence and Authorship
Artificial intelligence (AI) tools, including generative AI systems, cannot be listed as authors because they cannot assume responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and accountability of scholarly work.
Authors remain fully responsible for all content submitted to JAOI, including content produced or modified with AI assistance. The use of AI must comply with the journal's Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy, including applicable disclosure requirements.
8. Authorship Disputes
Any dispute concerning authorship, author order, or individual contributions should first be addressed by the authors and their affiliated institutions, where appropriate.
JAOI may suspend editorial processing while a dispute is being resolved and may request clarification or supporting documentation. The journal will handle such matters in accordance with its publication ethics policies and applicable institutional procedures.
9. Author Declaration
By submitting a manuscript to JAOI, the corresponding author confirms that all listed authors meet the journal's authorship criteria, have approved the submitted version, and agree to take responsibility for their respective contributions and the integrity of the work as a whole.
All authors must agree to the final author list and order before publication.
